Dominican biofuel developer secures concession
Dominican Republic energy authorities granted a provisional concession for a biodiesel project in Puerto Plata province.
Norte Biodiesel is behind the plant planned for the municipality of Sosua, according to national energy commission CNE. Used vegetable grease would fire the complex to produce up to 438,000 gallons a year (1.66Ml/y).
The company submitted the concession request in December and now has 12 months to carry out studies in the lead-up to a definitive concession.
Biodiesel consumption accounted for 5.97ktoe of the 5,820ktoe consumed in the country in 2011, according to latest data from CNE, whose energy outlook envisions biodiesel representing 3-5% of the energy mix by 2030.
