Honduras taps multilateral to overhaul power sector

Honduras' government is looking to secure multilateral financing to support power sector reform.

Authorities filed a loan request with IDB, which could provide US$130mn, according to the development bank.

Funds would help advance efforts to improve financial sustainability, operational efficiency and energy sufficiency through an efficient rate scheme and focalized subsidies, among other actions.

The sector suffers from constant outages, which led to rationing earlier this month, and state power company Enee in May saw losses widen to 686mn lempiras (US$32.6mn).
