Lima, March 4, 2024. Enel Generación Perú's Clemesí solar park, located in the Mariscal Nieto province of the Moquegua region, began its commercial operation after receiving approval from the Economic Operation Committee of the National Interconnected System (COES). This milestone consolidates the company's leadership as the main renewable energy generator in the country, gathering 36% of the nominal solar and wind power of the national territory with 392 MW.
“Thanks to this milestone, our Clemesí and Rubí solar plants are consolidated as the largest solar complex in Peru. Peruvians should be proud of the enormous renewable potential that exists in their territory. We renew our commitment to value this potential with renewable projects that help the country reduce its carbon footprint and achieve the energy transition,” emphasized Marco Fragale, Country Manager of Enel Perú.
The Clemesí solar plant represented an investment of USD 77.8 million and has 115 MW of installed capacity. It has more than 220 thousand solar panels with a power of 525 Watts each. These are bifacial panels of the latest technology, capable of taking advantage of the sun on both sides, that is, taking advantage of the direct irradiance and the irradiance reflected on the ground.
“The commercial operation of Clemesí guarantees the supply of renewable energy for the economic activities framed in the respective commercial agreements. It also symbolizes the fulfillment of our promise to be the main ally of the industries that move the country, by delivering sustainable, reliable energy at competitive prices,” said Eugenio Calderón, Head of Power Generation Peru.
It should be noted that, during the construction period, Enel Generación Perú helped boost the economy in the Moquegua region by creating 983 jobs both in the projects and in the activities around them, of which 520 were performed by Moqueguanos. Likewise, a Cooperation Agreement was signed with the Pampa de Clemesí Association to promote competitive funds for the development of projects in various axes, such as: access to energy, social development, entrepreneurship, access to water, among others.
Enel Generación Perú is the leading company in the Peruvian electricity market. It has an installed capacity of 2.3 gigawatts (GW), which represents 16.8% of the power available in the country, which allows it to offer sustainable, reliable energy at competitive prices. Likewise, it is the main renewable generator in Peru with around 600 MW of solar and wind capacity, and a renewable project portfolio of more than 12,000 MW.
