GACM to launch dozens of tenders this year for Mexico City's new airport

GACM, the future operator of Mexico City's new international airport, will launch this year more than 40 tenders for the project.

The tenders will include 38 projects, some studies and executive projects, the CEO of GACM, Federico Patiño Márquez, said during the BNamericas 5th Mexico Infrastructure Summit in Mexico City.

He did not disclose the date to launch the tenders nor the investment involved.

The tenders are part of 21 packages of work on the airport that are worth 95bn pesos (US$5.47bn).

Earlier this month GACM launched three international tenders that together were worth 3.14bn pesos.

Construction of the airport is 3% complete, according to a press release, and it is due to be ready in 2020. The airport is being built on a 4,430ha site and will be able to handle up to 120mn passengers a year.

The final price tag is estimated at 169bn pesos. Of the total, 127bn pesos will be allocated to infrastructure, 17bn pesos to water treatment and management, 20bn pesos to design, engineering and project management, and 1.7bn pesos for social projects.
