Light to begin remote testing next week

Bnamericas
Brazilian power holding group Light will next week kick off testing of a remote metering project, CEO Jerson Kelman announced Wednesday. Industrial scale production and installation is expected by year-end or early 2012, Kelman said during a presentation. The company is spending 35mn reais (US$21.5mn) on this project. He added that 110,000 electronic meters were installed in 2010 and another 130,000 will be added this year. The initiatives target pacified areas of Rio de Janeiro. Losses in these areas range from 70-90%, according to CFO João Batista Zolini Carneiro. This year's program targets 11 communities with the goal of adding 50,000 clients. Light serves 31 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro state, home to more than 10mn residents and 4mn clients.
