Lima utility gets additional financing for waterworks

Lima water utility Sedapal will get an additional 63.5mn soles (US$15mn) in financing for a 239mn-sol project to expand water services in two districts of the Peruvian capital.

The funding authorized by the housing ministry (MVCS) comprises 7.3mn soles from ordinary resources and 56.1mn soles from bond issues, a decree states.

The project to be financed involves installing 4,685 potable water domestic connections, as well as 4,715 sewer connections, will benefitting over 15,000 residents of the Comas and Independencia districts of the city.

Other works include installing a 5,807m potable water impulsion line, building two new reservoirs and upgrading a third one, repairing 1,176m of sewers and adding over 43km of new sewer pipelines, documents show.

In April, Sedapal and MVCS told local press that while the project’s technical dossier was approved in December 2020, the funds were not included in this year’s budget.
