Mexico's SCT has tendered US$300mn in works for 2017

Mexico has so far tendered 6.5bn pesos (US$301mn) for works to be carried out this year as part of the 2014-18 infrastructure program.

The transport ministry (SCT) began awarding contracts for this year in late 2016 as a way to generate employment, said minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza. He added that over 700,000 jobs have been created through SCT-tendered works since the beginning of President Enrique Peña Nieto's term in late 2012.

Ruiz Esparza said that the public-private partnership model has been essential in executing the government's infrastructure project portfolio.

The country's transport minister noted that all the information related to the projects planned for this year will be available to the public on the government's procurement website CompraNet.

In 2016, the SCT awarded contracts to perform maintenance works on two federal non-toll highways, for which works will start being carried out this year under PPP models.

This year, the SCT will launch four tenders for road maintenance projects to be carried out under PPP models, as well as for the construction of two other hospitals that will be developed using a similar financing structure.
