Peru grants local group 250MW solar concession

Peru’s energy and mines ministry has granted a definitive concession for a 250MW solar project in the southern region of Arequipa.

The US$330mn planned Solimana park belongs to renewable energy developer Ecorer, a subsidiary of local hydroelectric producer Compañía Eléctrica El Platanal (Celepsa).

Ecorer submitted the concession request in March, following approval of the project’s environmental impact declaration.

Solimana would take a year to build and connect to the national grid at the proposed 220kV/33kV Solimana substation via an associated transmission line.

Ecorer, whose project pipeline includes the 167MW Coropuna solar park and wind farms Acari (40MW) and La Quebrada (100MW), did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the next steps for Solimana.

The ministry also granted Consorcio Transmantaro a definitive concession – requested in April – for the 220/60kV Chincha Nueva substation in Ica region.

Information from energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin shows that completion of the substation reaches 40% and that the start of commercial operations is penciled in for next September.
