Brazilian container terminal operator Empresa Brasileira de Terminais Portuários (Embraport) is investing 50mn reais (US$19.2mn) in a short branch line and a bonded warehouse at Santos port in São Paulo state.
The 850m rail line requires investment of 40mn reais and will be operational from 1Q15 and the warehouse is due to be built by end-2015, local daily Valor Econômico reported.
Embraport began operations at Santos – which has 50 terminals and is South America's busiest port – in June 2013.
The firm's total investment at Santos is estimated to hit 2.3bn reais, with Embraport's terminal expected to boost Santos' annual container handling capacity by 1.2mn TEUs.
