Peru's state-owned water utility Sedapal plans to build a desalination plant that will provide the southern districts of Punta Hermosa, Punta Negra, San Bartolo and Santa María del Mar with drinking water by 2018.
The plant will be executed through a 25-year concession contract with Spain-based Desalination South, with an investment of US$100mn, according to a release by Sedapal.
The project will benefit 25,000 year-long residents and up to 100,000 people during the summer season.
The desalination plant is currently in a technical stage. Construction is slated to begin in December of 2015.
