The project also involves building a tunnel at a depth of 27m. The semi-electrified railway will run underground from Quinta Normal station for 1.5km to Yungay where it will emerge near the Mapocho river. An aim of the project is to help turn the western sector of Santiago into a commercial hub. The future rail service will run through the municipalities of Santiago, Quinta Normal, Renca, Quilicura and Lampa (Batuco). It will have a connection with Metro, allowing intermodality in Quintal Normal, Matucana, Quilicura and in the future, the connection with the Santiago - Til Til rail service.
