4 firms submit technical bids for Mexico gas pipeline

Four firms have submitted technical bids for the Villa de Reyes-Aguascalientes-Guadalajara natural gas pipeline which will cross three Mexican states, according to the country's national power utility CFE.

The four firms are Fermaca Pipeline de Occidente, Energía Occidente de México, Enagás Internacional and Gasoducto de Aguaprieta, a subsidiary of US firm Sempra Energy's Mexican unit IEnova.

Another five firms presented a letter of justification for not participating in the technical proposal submission process, including Sacyr and Carso Electric.

The 389km, 886Mf3/d (25.1Mm3/d) capacity pipeline will cross the states of San Luís Potosí, Aguascalientes and Jalisco, supplying natural gas to new power generation plants, at a cost of US$962mn, according to the CFE.

A contract for the pipeline's construction will be awarded in March and the project will become operational in January 2018, it said.
