Brazil advances Belo Horizonte metro privatization
Brazil will publish the privatization notice for the Minas Gerais’ state subsidiary of public rail firm CBTU this month, paving the way for the 3.8bn-real (US$726mn) expansion of Belo Horizonte's metro.
Audit court TCU approved the privatization in August.
''We are in final adjustments, and we likely publish the bidding notice … no later than September 23. From the publication of the notice, we will be able to hold the auction in about 90, 100 days. So, we are talking about an auction in November or December this year," the secretary of federal investment partnership program PPI, Bruno Westin, told local radio station Itatiaia.
The new owner will also receive a 30-year concession to operate Belo Horizonte's metro network, extend metro line No. 1 and build line No. 2.
Of the total investment, 2.8bn reais will come from the national government, 428mn reais from Minas Gerais, and the rest from the contract winner.
