Cammesa adds auction tiebreak modeling solution to Mater
Wholesale power market administrator Cammesa has added new tools to a subsite dedicated to Argentina's term market.
The new functionalities are for companies involved – or interested in – an auction of priority transmission dispatch corresponding to 4Q22. Almost all projects submitted are competing in a tiebreak round amid restricted availability of transmission capacity.
One tool is a tiebreak simulator, the other allows users to see, on a map, where projects are planned to be built.
Priority dispatch is due to be awarded by January 27.
Wind power chamber CEA says a lack of transmission capacity is the chief headwind to continued growth of the local renewables sector.
In the term market called Mater, where corporates contract power directly from renewables plants, 913MW of wind and 988MW of solar are due to come online in 2023-24 using existing infrastructure.
As things stand, the growth outlook – particularly in regions with the best resources – is dampened because of the dispatch challenges.
Transmission priority dispatch is assigned to projects looking to participate in Mater. Corporations with an eye on their green credentials, and keen on securing supply at a favorable price, are driving demand for electricity from renewable sources.
Improving finances within the electric power sector is Argentina’s initial barrier to strengthening the overall industry, a federal energy department document states. The sector faces challenges across the spectrum, from generation and transport to distribution.
CEA has urged close public-private collaboration and efficient and effective energy infrastructure planning.
