Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. (06-07-2023).- The Dominican State represented by the National Energy Commission (CNE), continues its work in favor of the sustainable development of the country, by delivering today the definitive concession for the construction of the "Powership Azua" project, conventional thermal generation plant that will contribute 188 megawatts of electricity to the national energy system.

The contract was signed by Edward Veras, Executive Director of the CNE, and by Carlos Roberto Matamoros Bregni, representative of the company Karpowership Dominican Republic, SAS , the concessionaire that will develop the Powership Azua project.

Veras, specified that the plant that will be located in the municipal district of Pueblo Viejo, Azua, will have a maximum capacity of 188 megawatts (MW) and a minimum of 180 MW, which will be made up of several generation units contained in two vessels: KPS 60 and KPS 26.

He indicated that KPS 60 will have a generation capacity of up to 80 MW and will be made up of four motor generators of 18.46 MW each, four gas boilers, a steam turbine of 6 MW capacity and a substation with a transformation capacity of 100 MVA. (megavolt-ampere).

He explained that the generation unit of the KPS 26 vessel will generate up to 108 MW and will be made up of six motor generators of 17.13 MW each; six gas boilers, two steam turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each and a substation with a transformation capacity of 125 MVA.

Veras reported that the Powership Azua plant will use Fuel Oil No.6 (HFO) as fuel and that it will also have the possibility of operating with Natural Gas, which will be subject to the availability of its operating infrastructure.

During the signing of the definitive concession, the Executive Director of the CNE reiterated the commitment of the government of President Luis Abinader to the sustainable development of the national electricity system for the good of all sectors that make up Dominican society.

While Mr. Carlos Roberto Matamoros Bregni, representative of the company Karpowership Dominican Republic, SAS, thanked the facilities granted by the authorities to develop the " Powership Azua " project.
