A project to study wind power potential on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas is underway

The assessment involves towers at seven sites, highlights the country's latest energy policy, which prioritizes development of renewable energy sources.

Hurdles exist, however, such as "a general lack of awareness, knowledge and skills among users, planners, designers and service providers about RE technologies and how they can be applied."

In conjunction with the document's release, the government announced that cabinet approved the framework for residential energy self generation and renewable energy power purchase/inter-connection agreements prepared by Bahamas Electricity Corporation.

The Bahamas recently joined small island developing states energy initiative SIDS DOCK.
