The solar-powered lighting system of the Héroes del Chaco bridge is now fully operational, thus marking the countdown towards its official authorization, which is scheduled for next March 1, as confirmed by the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Eng. Claudia Centurión.

In this regard, the head of the MOPC announced yesterday to the media that the date chosen for its commissioning coincides with Heroes' Day. “Although this bridge is Heroes of Chaco, we want to enable it by March 1,” said the Secretary of State, while work continues to finalize the final details of this work.

He reiterated that the authorization will only be for light vehicles; Not so, for large vehicles that, for now, will have to continue using Remanso.

Regarding this last point, the Secretary of State announced that the Remanso bridge is also among the rehabilitation plans that are being evaluated by the Public Works portfolio, taking into account the conditions in which it is currently found.

MORE ABOUT THE HEROES DEL CHACO BRIDGE

Through the completion of this work, the country's capital - for the first time - will be linked to the Western region, allowing the passage of at least 10,000 vehicles per day, decompressing the traffic currently on the Remanso bridge, officially inaugurated on the 19th. August 1978, more than 45 years ago.

This bridge not only stands out as a new icon in Asunción, it also represents a giant leap that Paraguayan engineering takes, leaving know-how for the country and especially for the companies of the Unión Consortium, involved in this project.

The vision that the National Government has with this work is a Paraguay connected to the world, because it constitutes a key piece to strengthen integration with Argentina and Brazil, linking Puerto Falcón to the Botanical Road Corridor, Ñu Guasú Highway, Luque Route - San Bernardino and route PY02, not to mention the Transchaco and the Bioceánca route.

The length of the cable stay over the Paraguay River is 603 meters and it has two piers of 300 meters each with two sails held by 23 stays on each side.

It is the first bridge that will have 4 lanes for vehicular traffic, a pedestrian path and a bicycle path. Together with the access roads and viaducts, they total more than 7 kilometers from the Costanera Norte to its junction with the Remanso-Puerto Falcón section.
