Hydro, non-conventional generation grows in Ecuador
Hydroelectric power production in Ecuador last month totaled 1.26TWh compared with 1.04TWh in July 2013.
Data from wholesale power market administrator Cenace also reveals that non-conventionals generated 56.2GWh this July versus 37.6GWh a year earlier.
Thermoelectric generation and imports contributed 502GWh and 22.9GWh last month, respectively, versus 532GWh and 34.2GWh in July 2013.
Maximum power demand hit 3,352MW last month compared with 3,039MW in July 2013. A record 3,397MW was set this May, while in July 2014 consumption totaled 1.772TWh, up 11.5% year-on-year.
Effective capacity at end-May totaled 5,119MW, according to latest information from power planning authority Conelec. Non-renewables accounted for 53.8%, hydroelectric 43.7%, biomass 1.82%, wind 0.37% and solar 0.26%.
