Mato Grosso highway concessions to spur US$1bn investment

Brazil’s Mato Grosso state will offer 30-year concessions for 512km of highways, divided into three lots and expected to generate investments of 6bn reais (US$1.13bn).
The concession notice will be published later this year.
The lots comprise 140km of MT-130 highway between Primavera do Leste and Paranatinga, 233km of the MT-246, MT-343, MT-358 and MT-480 highways between Jangada and Itanorte, and 138km of MT-220 between Tabaporã and Sinop.
This week, officials already pitched the concessions to potential investors at an online event
"All highways buttress the state's production. We will have highways that will be connected directly to the BR-163 toward the Port of Miritituba, in Pará," Mato Grosso’s infrastructure secretary Marcelo de Oliveira said.
"We also will have roads that will be directly connected to the BR-070, which will be very close to the Rondonópolis terminal and the road that connects to Itanorte, passing through several cities, connecting to Jangada. This stretch will be close to the future terminals that are planned for Cuiabá, Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde," he added.
With the concessions, Mato Grosso, a rich commodities producing state, seeks to attract private sector players to infrastructure projects.
"Any investor and entrepreneur who wants to invest their resources here knows that we have treated them with extreme seriousness. I guarantee that those who want will have all the necessary support, information about the state’s economy data, our growth, GDP, to see our capacity to grow," governor Mauro Mendes said.
