Mendoza vows transparency over fracking regulation

Mendoza's energy and mining undersecretary Emilio Guiaz traveled to the Argentine town of General Alvear to meet with locals concerned over the province's plans to increase fracking activity on unconventional plays in the area, according to a local government press release. Such plans emerged following an updated provincial law that regulates fracking.

Guiaz told the locals that the law "regulates the activity's environmental impact evaluation" as well as how water resources are used.

"Fracking has been a legitimate activity in Mendoza for many years and what we did was regulate the way it is carried out safely. There is no need to do it secretly if we can do it well and sustainably," the official said.
