Mexico's Dominica wind farm receives IDB award

The Dominica wind farm (pictured) in Mexico has won a climate change and environment award from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The 100MW wind farm, developed by Italian firm Enel Green Power, is located in the central-northern state of San Luis Potosí. The developer said during the plant's construction that it would reduce CO2 emissions by 337,236t/y.
The wind farm received an award in the climate change and environment category of the development bank's Infrastructure 360 awards, which were created in 2013 and are awarded annually to projects in Latin America and the Caribbean that promote best practices in sustainable infrastructure.
The facility, part of a planned project that will comprise two wind farms, supplies electricity to Delphi Automotive and Mexican bank Banamex through long-term power-purchase agreements and has made an important contribution to diversifying the country's energy mix, the IDB said.
The Atotonilco wasterwater treatment plant in Mexico also received an award from the IBD in recognition of its sustainability strategy, while distinctions were also given to the CTR Rio solid waste treatment center in Brazil.
