Minas Gerais state presents federal infra wish list

Officials from Brazil’s Minas Gerais state presented a list of priority infrastructure projects to the infrastructure coordinator of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's transition team, since the works also require federal help.

Lula will assume office on January 1.

Minas Gerais prioritizes the privatization of Belo Horizonte’s subway, the concession of highways BR-381, BR-262 and BR-040, and requested federal help for determining the use of fees generated from the early renewal of the Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica rail concession, among others.

The complete list can be seen here, in Portuguese.

“These and other projects are decisive for the development of infrastructure in Minas Gerais,” infrastructure secretary Fernando Marcato said in a statement.

Minas Gerais also wants to maintain legal frameworks that facilitated private investments in the sanitation and rail segments.

Unlike his ally President Jair Bolsonaro, governor Romeu Zema was reelected in October.
