Permitting advances for Panama thermoelectric dispatch project

Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa has filed an environmental impact study (EIS) as part of a project to increase dispatch capacity to thermoelectric plants.
The EIS is for the Panamá III substation of the planned 230kV Sabanitas-Panamá III line, environment ministry information shows.
The gas insulated switchgear substation in Panamá province will cost an estimated US$22mn and take 30 months to complete.
The ministry has already approved the EIS for the Sabanitas substation, as BNamericas reported previously.
The transmission link is the largest of obligatory short-term projects in Etesa’s 2020-34 expansion plan for the national grid (PESIN).
The plants that would benefit from the line include Generadora de Gatún’s 670MW natural gas-fired project and Sinolam Smarter Energy LNG Power’s 458MW Gas To Power Panamá project.
