Permitting advances for Tierra del Fuego thermoelectric project

Argentine province Tierra del Fuego’s environment department will hold a public hearing for a thermoelectric project in Ushuaia.

The meeting for the proposed 40MW plant in the provincial capital is scheduled for February 28.

The provincial executing unit of external loans submitted the environmental impact study for the natural gas-fired project, and highlights that the current generation equipment has been in service 15-30 years.

The plant would be connected to natural gas supplier Camuzzi’s network.

The transport of equipment would take three months and six to eight months for installation.

“Being an isolated system, there is no alternative provision plan. Analysis of service outages in the last three years show an increasing average of service inefficiency,” states the document, which adds the new capacity would complement plans to incorporate wind power.

Meanwhile, the country’s power regulator Enre authorized company 360 Energy Solar to access transport capacity for the 22MW Solar Fotovoltaica 360 Energy La Rioja III plant.

The park will connect to the national grid at transmission operator Transnoa’s Nonogasta Solar transformer station in La Rioja province.
