Brazil adds hydropower plants to A-5 auction

Brazil's power regulator Aneel has added three hydroelectric projects to next month's A-5 capacity auction.

The 150MW Itaocara plant in Rio de Janeiro state was included as were the 139MW Apertados and 87MW Ercilândia projects in Paraná, federal news service Agência Brasil said on Wednesday.

The November 28 auction will include wind, hydroelectric, solar and thermoelectric plants. All are due online by 2019.

Thermoelectric facilities – fired by coal, natural gas and biomass – have a supply period of 25 years.

Solar and wind will be negotiated in contracts of 20 years and hydroelectric plants 30 years.
