Consortium signs Peru road supervision contract
A consortium led by Spanish engineering firm Prointec signed a 3.8mn-sol (US$1.2mn), six-month contract to supervise construction work on a stretch of Peru's north Panamerican highway.
The highway project is part of President Ollanta Humala's drive to accelerate public spending in infrastructure during his last six months in office.
The consortium, whose other members are Colombia's ACI Proyectos and Peruvian consulting firm Lagesa Ingenieros Consultores, will oversee work by concessionaire Norvial.
Norvial is carrying out work on the Ancón-Pativilca Red Vial No. 5 stretch of the highway, on Lima's northern outskirts, Obed Chuquihuayta, general manager of state transport regulator Ositran, told state news agency Andina.
Peru has US$14.5bn pending in public-private partnership infrastructure investments, equivalent to 8% of GDP, according to the finance ministry. Excessive bureaucracy has held up tens of billions of dollars in mining, energy and infrastructure projects, according to industry groups such as SNMPE and AFIN.
SCHOOLS
In other infrastructure news, since 2011 the government has transferred 508mn soles to Huánuco region to upgrade infrastructure at 198 schools, while 306mn soles was allocated to 99 schools in Piura region and 214mn soles for 155 schools in Huancavelica region, the education ministry said.
At the same time, the tax swap program known as Obras por Impuestos was extended to Ucayali region in the northern jungle, where bus company Civa started work on a 4.1mn-sol road project in the town of Contamana, investment promotion agency ProInversión said in a statement.
