IN BRIEF: OPIC backing regional energy projects

The US government's Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) approved support for new private sector-led development projects.

The projects include up to US$135mn in financing for Platanares Geothermal, sponsored by Ormat Technologies, to develop a 35MW geothermal plant in Honduras.

And up to US$100mn in financing was approved for Jamaica power utility JPS to upgrade T&D infrastructure and implement a smart streetlight program, an RFP for which was issued in recent days.
