Latin America is expected to launch new metro, bus rapid transit (BRT) and light railway services next year, in a move to alleviate traffic, according to BNamericas' latest Infrastructure Intelligence Series report.
But, beyond the challenge of securing investment, lies the need to develop integrated transport systems to increase efficiency.
"It's great that investments, builders and suppliers are coming together to develop more metros, but the need for more competitive cities and real estate development can't be solved by metros alone. What we need are integrated transport systems," said Luis Gutiérrez, head of Latin America's BRT association (SIBRT).
