Compañia Minera Maricunga S.A., a subsidiary of Canadian miner Kinross Gold Corporation, engages in the operation of the Maricunga gold mine, located in Chile's northern Atacama region (III). In 2014, Minera Maricunga was merged by absorption with Kinross's subsidiary Minera Lobo Marte. Since then, Maricunga became the operator of the Lobo Marte project, a non-operating asset still in the feasibility stage, that is expected to begin production in 2019. Located 16km east of the city of Copiapo, the project has proven and probable reserves of 164,230Mt. The company is based in the Copiapó. In 2016, Kinross suspended operations at the Maricunga mine, due to an environmental authority procedure. Compañia Minera Maricunga is wholly owned by Kinross through four subsidiaries: MDO Holdings Ltd, Macaines Mining Properties S.á r.l., Bema Gold (Bermuda) Ltd. and BGO Bermuda Ltd. and it was incorporated in 2008.
