Brazilian consortium Expresso Monotrilho Leste, led by Brazilian group Queiroz Galvão, was awarded a contract to design, build and operate a monorail extending São Paulo city's metro line No. 2. Also part of the consortium are Canadian aircraft and train manufacturer Bombardier and local construction firm Construtora OAS. The monorail, known as Expresso Tiradentes, runs 24.5km between the city's eastern neighborhoods of Vila Prudente and Cidade Tiradentes. It has 17 stations and capacity to transport 40,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
