Chile to ease bidding rules to boost competition
Chile's public works ministry (MOP) will ease bidding rules to allow more companies to participate in tenders and purchases, in a move to foster competition.
"In the next 30 days, we expect to implement a change in MOP's procurement rules to allow companies that today cannot participate [in tenders] to do so," MOP head Alberto Undurraga said in a conference in Santiago to discuss infrastructure financing.
The decision aims to benefit small companies located in Chilean regions, part of the government's plans to decentralize investments.
President Michelle Bachelet has announced a US$3bn program to develop extreme northern and southern regions, including Aysén (XI) and Magallanes (XII), areas usually neglected by the government given their low population. Plans include housing, roads, cable cars, airports, tourism and water projects.
