Description:
Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Copel) is a Brazilian holding company dedicated to the generation, transmission and distribution of energy. It serves 395 municipalities, in ten Brazilian states. The state of Paraná is the largest shareholder of Copel with just over 31% of the capital. Copel owns 46 power plants (20 hydroelectric, one thermal and 25 wind), operates one hydroelectric under a special regime, and participates in the capital of 11 other generation ventures (one thermoelectric, six hydroelectric and four wind farms). The total installed capacity of Copel adding all these projects amounts to 6,394MW, which are carried through 6,735km of transmission lines and 198,922km of distribution. The company also participates in the telecommunications and natural gas sectors. Copel was founded in 1954 and is based in Curitiba.
