NEW REPORT: The state of the Pacific Alliance

Pragmatism and closeness to the business community are things that have always characterized Latin America's youngest trading bloc.

Comprising Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, the Pacific Alliance (PA) has earned praise for being a bold and dynamic free market initiative since being launched in 2011 in a region that has never been famous for its free trade credentials.

On July 4-5 a Pacific Alliance CEO Summit will take place in Lima, with BNamericas as a media partner.

Today, amid the barrage of headlines about Donald Trump’s trade war with China and the embattled Brexit process, the rest of the world could do worse than look to the PA for inspiration or even an inter-bloc agreement.

"One of the main achievements of the PA has been to capture the unprecedented interest of the international community. Evidence of this is the participation of 57 observer states and the requests of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore (and potentially South Korea and Ecuador) to become associated states," says Ana María Palacio, former legal adviser to Colombia's ministry of trade, industry and tourism who participated in the negotiations of the Pacific Alliance.
