Puerto Rico power utility PREPA launched a request for proposals to engineer, procure and build an early warning system for 37 dams across the island.
The system will consist of multiple sensors collecting and transmitting data including reservoir levels, spillway flows, real time video feed of specific dam locations, outlet and drainage flow rates, local weather, and seismic activity.
Interested companies must register at www.poweradvocate.com, which PREPA will use to manage the call with number 201537. The submission deadline is December 28.
For its part, energy regulator NEPR opened consultation to review the regulation on microgrid development approved in 2018.
“As the energy sector evolves it is appropriate to review regulatory frameworks to keep them up to date with emerging technologies and initiatives,” said the watchdog. It highlighted the interconnection of such systems to the grid currently administered by Luma Energy, which took over operations from PREPA for 15 years in June 2021.
And Genera, which this year began management of PREPA’s 4,693MW thermal park, submitted an approval request to NEPR for amendments to the scope of works and new projects as part of the replacement of critical components to improve fuel efficiency.
