Suelopetrol is one of the largest private oil companies in Venezuela and the only one that trades shares on the Caracas exchange. The company is separated into two divisions: seismic data collection for large companies (including PDVSA) and its expansive exploration and production division, where it partners with PDVSA in the management of a mid-sized field in Zulia state. In 2010, Petroindependencia was formed by Suelopetrol, US major Chevron, and Japanese firms Inpex and Mitsubishi to operate the Carabobo 3 block. Suelopetrol was founded in 1984 and is based in Caracas, Venezuela.
