Telecom Italia S.p.A. (TIM) is an Italian telecommunications company that provides voice and data on fixed and mobile networks for domestic consumers, business, and wholesale operators. Internationally, TIM develops fiber optic networks primarily for the European, Mediterranean, and South America markets. The company's Brazilian subsidiary, Tim Brasil group, provides mobile telephony based on UMTS, GSM, and LTE technologies, as well as fiber optic data transmission, and residential broadband services. The business unit has established 63.4mn mobile lines in Brazil. The group also provides bandwidth services through local subsidiaries of TI Sparkle in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Rome-based Telecom Italia was established in 1908. French multimedia conglomerate Vivendi S.A. is TIM's major shareholder with almost 24%.
