Bnamericas

Some 30 Korean companies may be interested in the design, construction, and financing of Paraguay's infrastructure projects.

Paraguayan officials attended an event promoted by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, where several firms expressed informal interest in different projects, according to the public works and communications ministry (MOPC).

The firms include Daewoo, GS Group, Hyundai Corporation and Hyundai Engineering, Incheon International Airport Corporation, Korean Rail Network Authority, Korean Railroad Corporation (Korail), LG Electronics, Posco, Seoyeong Engineering, and Zyle Motors.

Under the framework of the new PPP law, Paraguay's infrastructure plans include: improvement works on highways 1, 2, 6 and 7; design and construction of a 1,300km highway; development of waterway systems; modernization of Asunción's Silvio Pettirossi international airport; a bi-oceanic corridor rail; and a commuter rail system.

Hyundai Corporation announced it plans to formally express its interest on the commuter rail project to the technical planning ministry (STP) on June 16, the MOPC added.
