Lima's transport authority Protransporte is the body responsible for the development of public transport projects in the Peruvian capital. Protransporte is developing the Metropolitano project, which is the first High Capacity Segregated Corridor (COSAC) operating on Lima's North-South axis. The project involves building exclusive corridors for rapid transit buses to improve efficiency, costs, travel times and to integrate Lima's suburbs with the city center. Protransporte was created in 2002 and depends on Lima's Metropolitan Municipality. It has its own administration and receives funding from the Municipality, the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.
