Hydropower forecast to widen footprint in Honduras

Honduras’ power generation park is projected to add around 200MW from hydroelectric plants in the coming years.

That is according to national dispatch center CND’s 2023-25 operational planning outlook.

The capacity would come from reservoir hydro Tornillito (198MW) and run of the river plant Río Molo (3.92MW).

The report adds that in the case of thermal and renewable energy (biomass, geothermal, solar and wind), no additions or retirements are expected in the three-year period.

Regarding consumption, the CND estimates that offtake in a base scenario will grow 3.41%, 3.48% and 3.61% in 2023, 2024 and 2025, respectively, to hit 12.4TWh in the latter year.

Maximum demand in a base scenario would reach 1,861MW next year, 1,925MW in 2024 and 1,995MW in 2025.

CND’s outlook, which includes a look at transmission infrastructure scheduled to enter service, is available here.
