Bioenergy S.A.S. operates as the biofuel unit of Colombia state oil firm Ecopetrol. Its projects include developing El Alcaraván, the nation's largest ethanol production facility. The project will produce 480,000l/d of ethanol from 14,400ha of sugarcane. It is also designed with 40MW cogeneration facilities in mind. The facilities will cover El Alcaraván's 18-20MW electricity needs, with the remaining capacity added to the SIN grid. The firm was created by Ecopetrol, which owns a 91% stake in Bioenergy alongside Mitsubishi's 9% interest.
